Knights of Columbus San Salvador Council #283

Partner Organizations

The Knights of Columbus San Salvador Council works to support the Catholic parishes, schools and lay organizations of South Philadelphia, as well as the many Catholic charities and social services within the city of Philadelphia. Through the support of our parishes and the South Philadelphia community we seek to serve where we are needed; developing parish life, growing lay ministries, providing outreach to the community and raising money and other donations to support our many projects for those in need.

Saint Paul Parish Homeless Ministry

  • “The Mission of the Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of the Poor is to build bridges between providers, recipients and community leaders across economic, political and religious spectra. A.D.R.O.P. accomplishes its Mission by matching individuals with identified needs to known resources in order to build better communities.”

  • “St. Paul Parish’s Homeless Ministry’s mission is to give comfort to our area’s homeless population by providing a variety of blessings: lunches and healthy snacks; toiletries and self-care items; gift cards; and seasonal items, such as outerwear and blankets. Perhaps most important, we provide personal interaction with people who are often overlooked. We make it a point to go out each season to provide these items.

Our goals are to conduct these events monthly; to grow and maintain a team of caring volunteers; to maintain an inventory of items for our outreach; and to communicate the results of our parishioners’ donations.”

  • "Mercy Hospice is a community grounded in faith and service where single women and mothers with children, experiencing homelessness and in recovery can find opportunities for new beginnings."

Mercy Hospice has been a vital part of the social safety net in Philadelphia for over 35 years. They offer a range of residential services to assist homeless women in recovery, with the mission of alleviating the poverty and family instability caused by serious addictions, associated trauma and mental health issues. Mercy Hospice fulfills an essential ministry of the Catholic Church by reducing poverty, restoring and strengthening families, and promoting the integral health and well-being of those struggling to break the bonds of addiction.

  • Our Mission: In the just and compassionate spirit of Saint Joseph, The Welcome Center offers opportunities that enable immigrants and others to improve the quality of their lives through access to education, support services and programs leading to self-sufficiency.

We provide a safe space for people of diverse backgrounds to come together.

Our goal is to minister to families...to help mom and dad learn English and pursue the opportunity for naturalization. It is all about their family...English so that they can help their children in school, with medical issues etc. Many families struggle financially so if we can help during the winter to provide warm jackets for them, we and they are grateful.

    History:

In 2002, we opened our doors in Kensington to serve and help meet the growing needs of the immigrant community. Rooted in the mission "to live and work so that all may be united with God and with one another", the Welcome Center continues to provide educational programs, support services and advocacy for our newest neighbors.
